I’ve been a Labour and Co-operative Councillor for East Brighton since 2003. I was Leader of the Labour and Co-operative Group from May 2013 to May 2018. From May 2015 to May 2018 I was Leader of Brighton and Hove City Council.
My family is from Hove, I was born at Southlands hospital in Shoreham and grew up in and around Brighton and the Sussex Downs.
I am a graduate of the University of Hull and after that spent several years working in the tourism sector. Prior to becoming a councillor I worked at Sussex Police headquarters in Lewes dealing with calls from the public.
The views expressed here are my own and not those of the Labour and Co-operative Group or the city council unless stated.
